{"id":5289,"date":"2019-04-16T10:30:53","date_gmt":"2019-04-16T10:30:53","guid":{"rendered":"httpss:\/\/www.jerbacampervansredo.mtcserver.com\/?p=5289"},"modified":"2019-08-22T07:14:45","modified_gmt":"2019-08-22T07:14:45","slug":"how-to-build-the-best-campfire","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/blog\/how-to-build-the-best-campfire\/","title":{"rendered":"How To Build The Best Campfire"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Safety<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Campfire\n safety should always be the first thing you consider when you build, \nlight and leave your campfire. Make sure you always follow these \ncampfire safety tips to keep yourself, others and the environment around\n you safe:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/CamPfire-Safety-small.png\" alt=\"campfire safety\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: The Fire Pit<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many\n campsites will have a designated fire pit area but if you are wild \ncamping find a spot that is free from grass, plants, trees etc. The \ncampfire should be built on bare ground such as gravel, sand or dirt and\n not grass. If there isn\u2019t an area free of grass then you should dig \naway the surface to create a bare surface upon which to build \u2013 try and \nkeep the top layer of turf you dig and lift up so that you can replace \nthis after you fire is over, this way you can try to ensure that you \nleave no trace and any damage will more quickly recover. Gather medium \nsized rocks to create a circular boundary for your fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/2014-03-14-17.10.53-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"kids campfire\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: Gather Your Materials<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every\n good campfire will start with good tinder. This can be dry leaves, dry \nbark or dry grass. If the weather means that most of the natural tinder \nis wet, then you can use paper which works just as well. Next, you need \nto source your kindling. Kindling is often small twigs and branches \u2013 \nagain they need to be dry. Finally, you need wood. This doesn\u2019t need to \nbe large logs that you use on a fireplace at home. Sticks that are as \nthick as your wrist are perfect \u2013 again they should be dry, otherwise \nthey will be difficult to light and will produce a lot of smoke! Dead \ntwigs and branches that are not in contact with the ground will nearly \nalways be dryer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: The Build<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There\n are different campfire build layouts, but we are going to explain the \nteepee layout, which as you\u2019d expect is shaped like a tepee. Start by \npiling your tinder in the centre of your pit and place the kindling \naround it to form the tepee shape with the smallest twigs next to the \ntinder. On the side that the wind is blowing against leave an opening to\n give your fire the oxygen it needs and to enable you to light the \ntinder. Keep building it up with large pieces of kindling and then \naround the kindling start adding your smaller pieces of wood to create a\n larger tepee structure. Once your structure is built set fire to your \ntinder and as the fire burns the structure will eventually fall at which\n point you can carefully add more wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/how-to-build-campfire-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"how to build campfire\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 5: Enjoy The Fire<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Enjoy\n the warm fuzzy feeling you get from sitting around your campfire \u2013 and \nthe feeling of accomplishment. Don\u2019t dive straight in with the \nmarshmallows!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/campfire-with-kids-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"campfire with kids\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/fire-hot-warm-warmth-546337-1024x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"fire\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 6: Toast Your Mallows<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Once\n your campfire has been burning for awhile and there are no longer large\n flames you can begin to toast your marshmallows. We all have our own \nfavourite techniques for how to toast the perfect marshmallow, mine \nbeing to place the marshmallow in a gap next to some hot embers and \nslowly turn it around until it is golden and crispy and then I eat that \nlayer off and put it back in to toast the next layer! If you want to go \nfor the American classic you could always try to make s\u2019mores \u2013 a great \neasy way to do this is to get 2 digestive biscuits smother them with \nchocolate spread and sandwich your toasted marshmallow in the \nmiddle\u2026Yum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another great sweet treat to cook on the campfire is a\n banana boat\u2013 leave the skin on the banana put a slit down the middle of\n a banana long ways (on the concaved side) and stuff with squares of \nchocolate, chopped strawberries and sprinkle with nut. Wrap the banana \nin tin-foil and sit it on the fire. It will only take a couple of \nminutes to be warm and gooey. Use tongs (or a couple of sticks if you \ndon\u2019t have tongs!) to take it off the campfire and place it on a plate, \nthe foil should cool quickly but be aware of hot steam as you open the \ntinfoil. Grab a spoon and get stuck in!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/leon-contreras-447377-1-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"toasting-marshmallows\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.jerbacampervans.co.uk\/JerbaStaging\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/campfire-1031141_640-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"campfire\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Top Tip!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If  you want to have a main meal cooked on your campfire, a great quick and  healthy meal to make is salmon. Make a marinate \u2013 this can be as simple  as placing a knob of butter, slice of lemon and chopped dill and garlic  on top of your salmon. Or try our favourite of honey, soy sauce,  chopped garlic and chopped chilli. Put each salmon fillet onto a  separate piece of tinfoil that is big enough to rap the fillet and  drizzle with the marinate. Place the tinfoil onto the hot embers of the  fire and leave for 6-8mins or until the fish is cooked through. Use  tongs to remove from the fire and be careful of the hot steam when  opening the tinfoil.
